SANTA MONICA COLLEGE CELEBRATES GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP

In light-of International Education Week, Santa Monica College celebrated international diversity among its students during its 11th annual Global Citizenship Day Festival, where an allure of free food, music, and games unified campus culture. For the past eleven years Santa Monica College has enthusiastically encouraged students to celebrate in this illustrious event to promote global citizenship amongst the campus community.

The day of festivities, in particular, has helped to bring the broad spectrum of cultural differences and similarities into perspective, as SMC’s international community (which includes more than 3,000 students representing more than 100 different nations worldwide) educated and entertained the campus community through various activities.

Throughout the day, students representing countries such as Japan and Mexico presented cultural dances that brought awe and attention to those who watched and admired from aside. Clubs such as The International Folk Dance club, as well as Kaspisananf Pilipino also awed and amazed crowds with wonderful food, music and fun games, which were both entertaining and culturally insightful.

In addition to this, many efforts have continued to be made by various campus departments, including The International Business Department and The Humanities Department, to help continue to solidify a global community for the years to come. With the offering of several different study abroad opportunities, and a variety of lectures, courses, and educational events, Santa Monica College will in no doubt remain united and culturally infused in a world of global citizenship.

It’s time to gear up and get ready for SMC’s annual homecoming events! This year we’re kicking it up with a $10,000 Half-Time Kick Contest, along with FREE $5 Food Coupons, as well as, Buy One Get One Free Chipotle Coupons, for the First Three Hundred Students, who attend the homecoming game.Free Giveaways, as well as Free Ice Cream and Face Paintings, will also be available to students wearing SMC ATTIRE through out spirit week, where A.S activities, such as the Huff and Puff games, Club Row, and SMC Homecoming Idol, will take place. 

Any students who are interested in participating, may sign up in the A.S office. These events are guaranteed to be a blast of fun, and in the words of pico the pirate, “Don’t Miss Out! There will be plenty of FREE FOOD and CASH PRIZES!!!!!!!!!

IN THE WORLD OF ANCIENT POLITIES

WHO HAD THE BETTER POLITY...

PLATO OR ARISTOTLE

In order for the greater good of the state to reach its full potential, the ideal polity must include all class of persons so that all those who live within it can experience happiness.

The citizens by themselves, however, will never be able to achieve this, because they lack reason and rationalization. Their beliefs, and bodily desires for pleasure hinders their judgment, and ultimately leaves a misappropriated balance of happiness among the state.

The polity in which the philosopher rule’s, is the only polity, in which the satisfaction of the people will be ensured.  For the philosopher king, is sufficient enough within himself, to be resilient to the temptation of frivolous desires, thus, ensuring the greater good of the state, and the greater good of the people.

DOES SIZE MATTER

For years there has been an emphasis on size as far as what's acceptable and what's not in the world of media that we as a society have adapted into our lives.

 For "Celebrities" being thin is a must, and now it seems that every young girl wants to look like a model and every guy wants to be with a girl who looks like a model, but why?

 Is it because all that we have seen as beautiful has been a size 2-10? 

 But does being a size 2 or 5 or 8 really even matter when it comes to succeeding in life?

Does is account for whether or not someone is beautiful or smart, or capable of being admired?

 I think not.

 My beauty and my ability to accomplish my goals in life, do not depend on whether I'm a size 2 or 18. It's the drive and charisma that comes from within me, and that's what truly matters.

The Function and Organization of Authority

The function and organization of the government is to carry out practical tasks that benefit society as a whole, such as, defense, schools, roads, currency and etc. The authority that is  within the government is upheld to ensure and continue moral order amongst society. The "moral order" however, is of religious pretenses, and not of rational ones.

MY INTERPRETATION OF PLATO'S VIEW ON T.F.O.A

Social instability and personal anxiety is inevitable under the authority of a society that is ruled by irrational pretenses. True priorities are only seen through rational and logical perspectives, that of which can only be upheld by people who understand and accept the idea of logic and reason behind human nature. Those of whom who can understand this will be best suited in implementing rash and just authority over the people, thus ensuring social stability.

My Big is Beautiful (Promotional Campaigns) 

The objective of the M.B.B campaigns is to help promote high self esteem and self acceptance among young women of plus sizes. 

The young women of M.B.B help to set positive images of what it means to love one's self, and represent all things in society, whether that be, fashion, music, medicine, or etc.

We give inspiration through our stories and live by example, that size can not and will not categorize nor restrict us to do and be the best that we can be.

In the article “Pakistan Did Its Part,” President Asif Ali Zardari discusses the state of his nation upon the death of one of its most notorious menaces Osama Bin Laden. The President addresses the media, in disregards to their portrayals of the specific role that Pakistan has held during the perennial search for Bin Laden. Many have led misconceptions, as Zaedari points out, of the vitality of Pakistan's pursuit in the fight against terrorism. The President addresses such misconceptions with his stand points of Pakistan being a freely elected democratic party, and in thanking President Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton of the United States of America, for their generous appreciation in words to his countries contributions on the close of world terror.

How I See It

President Obama thanks the nation of Pakistan for their vital efforts in this conquest for world justice, and to that i applaud, but for all of Pakistan's efforts over the years, is really one thanks enough?

All that is portrayed in the media is not always what things are. I feel that America is a pompous nation and would enjoy nothing more than to undermine the credit of another nation, in order to dwell in the likeness of every other. So with Osama’s death comes world gratification and who better than to take this than America? Wrong. People need to open their eyes to the world around them, and know that all that’s being told isn’t what’s really going on. Osama is dead, so they tell us, but what’s next. Because with all honesty, I fear that although this battle has been won, the real war has yet to begin.

Is Donald Trump bankrupting the GOP?

 In the article “Is Donald Trump Bankrupting The Gop.” Gloria Borger discusses her opinion on the moguls presidential candidacy.  She openly criticizes his bolviative attitude ,and  compares him to previous presidential candidates that she feels were less than eminent for the position. Gloria  also presents the notion, that with Trump headlining  the Grand Old Party, the focus of what’s important, such as current events; the deficit, along with the war in Libya, are being overshadowed . All the while, Gloria speculates that during  Trumps run, the GOP will pay the price for  their birther.

MY THOUGHTS

So I guess trumps trying to run for president, but its all hogwash if you ask me. He’s a public figure, yes , but not a public leader. He’s another TV politician. Personally I think the Donald maybe a little shook with President Obama’s tax on the rich. So he’s stepping  up to be seen and heard for other reasons  that not need be.  Trump has the big bucks. Trump runs things. Right? RIGHT! We live in a capitalist country people!!, and I’m sorry to say this, but money is and will always be what dictates  to our society. And one of the reasons why I’m sorry to say this, is because  I’m broke., which goes without saying, I’m never going to run things.

But as reckless as Trump is as a representative of the GOP, he can do and be just that. Regardless of the fact, of them  paying for his outlandishness, the rich will protect the rich. In a country where money rules, GOD FORBID, the poor.

TO BE HUMAN

To be human is not just in knowing all that is to be known, but to understand life in all its unique and simple ways.

Some of the most ingenious people throughout history, such as Albert Einstein, and Leonardo Divinci have spent there lives decoding and analyzing life in its simplicities just to be able to understand its complexities.

Are African American Journalist Still Relevent???? (OCT.27,2010)

Journalists Betty Baye, Jill Nelson, Dwayne Wickham, Tonyaa Weathersbee, Michelle Singletary, Barbara Robinson, Sheryl McCarthy, Rhonda Lokeman, and Wiley A. Hall the  3^rd, are all African-American Journalists, and are all examples of relevant African-American Journalists in today’s society. 

 These journalists are setting the example and representing themselves and their community well within  the journalism community. They provide the inside scoop on today’s current events. From working with big Media corporations  such as MSNBC, to USA Today, these African- American journalists are bringing in incredible stories on national scales.

However, I must say that although these journalist have come to be very wide scale on a mass media level, they are not the only African-American Journalist who are establishing themselves in the journalism community. 

There are others, such as Frank Bolden of the Pittsburg Black Media Federation ,Ann Daramola of CDTech, and many  more who may not be known on a national scale, but who are all known among their community as they write about current events in their life and neighborhood.

And so, as you can see, that as I have stated earlier,  that yes, most defiantly, they are of relevance.
